Yet another reason I'm glad I don't drink - it would be even worse to get up and do the Resolution Run with a pounding head and feeble stomach. As it was, the cold weather tested my resolve plenty. It was about -35, which is not my cup of tea when it comes to an outdoor run. As far as I'm concerned, that's why the good Lord invented treadmills.
But...I had signed up for the run and Dennis was roaring to go. (As usual. He must have ice water running through those veins of his.) We trudged off to Broadway Theatre and met his running gang for a quick 4.5k. Yes, technically it was supposed to be a 5k - but the route was mercifully shorter. And I will be eternally grateful for that! I think I haven't been so happy to see a finish line since I ran the full marathon. For the marathon, the tears of joy were in my accomplishment. For this run, it was gratitude that I wouldn't have to get my butt cheeks treated for frost bite. That seemed like a real possibility for the last kilometre.
But I did it! This fair weather runner managed to make it all the way through without crying. (Which is good, because the tears would have frozen my eyelashes shut.) I won't go so far as to say I enjoyed myself, because it really was too cold for my taste. But I will say that I'm proud of how I've launched into 2014. I started the year off on the right foot...then the left foot...then repeated for about 30 minutes.
Here's to bravely facing whatever 2014 may bring!
