I'm not much of a traveller so my list isn't going to be terrible exotic. But nevertheless - here it goes.
Vienna, Austria. My grandparents came from Austria so I've always been interested in exploring. I've heard the people are friendly. Plus, they really understand the importance of pastry! The buildings are so beautiful and ornate, and the countryside is gorgeous. What's not to love about this place? Although it wasn't at the top of Dennis' list (he likes places with either beaches or theme parks) he's gotten interested in doing one of the Viking cruises. They have one that goes to Vienna, among some other lovely stops. The cruises are pretty expensive but it would be the trip of the lifetime. We're looking at doing one in the next couple years.
Memphis, Tennessee. I'm a huge Elvis fan and so of course it's on my wish list to see Graceland. Who knows how much longer it will be open? I mean, it's still going strong but landmarks don't last forever. One reason that it's never made it to the top of our list is that aside from Graceland, I'm not sure what else there is to do. But surely there would be some great restaurants and other attractions. Maybe I just need to find a theme park for Dennis?
Hawaii. Anywhere in Hawaii. Because life isn't fair, Dennis has been to Hawaii twice and I haven't even been once. We have got to rectify that at some point. Things I would like to do in Hawaii - eat fresh pineapple (so fresh it still has the dirt on it!), go to the Polynesian Cultural Center, enjoy a luau, do some hiking, see the reef fish (even though fish kind of scare me), shop at the gigantic flea market and just generally relax.
Prince Edward Island. I haven't been to the Maritimes which makes me feel a little un-Canadian. Shouldn't I see this country coast to coast in my lifetime?! Dennis has been to Nova Scotia and loved it. I think a trip to the East would be a great vacation. And of course, that would have to include Prince Edward Island. I grew up on the Anne of Green Gables books - I would have to make the pilgrimage. However, I'm sure all the old-fashioned cuteness of it would be pure torture for Dennis. (And payback for all those water parks he's made me go to.)
Miami, Florida. Dennis and I have been to Florida before- Orlando and Tampa Bay. I've really enjoyed my time in both places, although I liked the shopping better in Orlando. And I do enjoy going to theme parks with Dennis. I can't go on many of the attractions (I get motion sick very easily) but like the people watching. I'm not sure if Miami has much in the way of theme parks but it looks bright and fun. I love the Cuban culture. We got a taste of it in Tampa but it would be an adventure to be a bit more immersed. It's sunny with beaches for Dennis, and cool restaurants for us to try. I think it would be a great time.
So those are my five! If this experience with cancer has taught us one thing, it's that you can't predict how much time you have. So use every vacation day! Even if we don't got anywhere exotic, time to recharge is vital to being a healthy and happy person.
