Yesterday our friend Sheila dropped by for a visit. We met Sheila through Dennis' run club and she's a lovely person. She had surgery two days after mine, but in her case it was for a breast reduction. It was nice to see her and kind of interesting to compare stories.
There were many things that were similar but overall Sheila's surgery was less intensive than mine was. She was discharged from hospital the same day. A week later, she was able to drive herself over to our house to visit. I haven't been brave enough to venture in the car yet. She was more mobile than I am and overall her energy level seemed to be quite high. It was great to see that her recovery was going so well. She still has to wait six weeks before she can return to running but she's been able to do other cardio, like biking. So I'm sure she'll bounce back quickly. She'll probably find the running much better with a smaller size - much easier to maintain form!
It was a good reminder to myself to be patient with my recovery. I have had a major, major surgery. That's not something that I'll recover from overnight. I need to take the time to heal and give myself a chance to truly rest and recuperate.
