I did my inventory of books today and as expected, it was slightly sobering. Not as bad as it could have been, mind you. But daunting nonetheless.
In total I have 42 books languishing on my bookshelf, waiting to be read. This is hard copies only. It does not include Kindle books. I don't have as many of those but I do have a few. However, I left them off the list just in the spirit of making it simpler.
My most ironic book title was one called "Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less". Perhaps that one will inspire me, once I make my way down the list. It did give me a chuckle though as clearly the basic principles of the book have not made it into my life yet.
As I listed each book, I also made note of how many pages there were. The grand total: 11,477 pages. That works out to roughly 32 pages per day or 220 per week if I wanted to get through all my books in a year. That actually seems somewhat reasonable. I think I could do 32 pages a day. At about one minute per page, that would be just over 30 minutes a day. Even if it took me a little longer, it still seems like it can be done. Slow and steady and all that!
So that's the challenge. By the end of January I should be 1/12 of the way through my backlog. We'll see how I do!
