This weekend was lovely as we had lots of family time. Saturday night my parents had us over for dinner. No one does a baked ham and scalloped potatoes quite like my mom. It's always relaxing when we go over to see them. And mom fussed over me a bit which was what I needed. Some days I take it all in stride, and other days I feel so vulnerable.
Today was more family time. Now that Dennis is into the training for his full marathon, he's often out from 8:00am until 1:00 pm or so. After the long slow run, his running gang likes to go out for brunch. So I have lots of time to myself, if I don't feel like tagging along.
Today I got up early to squeeze in a treadmill run. (We've had another cold snap, so I wasn't interested in running in the freezing wind.) I had a bit of a rush to get to church, but was able to make it to the service in time. Mom and dad never pressure me to go, but I know that they like it when I come with them.
After church, I met Tracy at Brown's Social House for some brunch. It was nice to have some sister time. It's soothing (for lack of a better word) to hang out with someone who knows me so well. I feel like I've had to have my "game face" on for so many people lately. With Tracy I can just be myself - sarcastic, upbeat, sad, or scared.
After brunch we went our separate ways - Tracy to do some shopping, and me to get groceries...and do some shopping. I stopped in at Shopper's to pick up some new make up. I don't go for the expensive stuff but every now and again I like to freshen up my look for the new season. I also popped into Cleo's as they were having a sale on some of their end of season stuff. I never go for anything too trendy so even if I can't wear it until next year, it doesn't matter.
After that it was home for some Dennis time. And facing the inevitable return to work tomorrow! I will admit I haven't had quite enough break from work to feel refreshed.
