It seems like it's been forever since I took Wicket for a walk. But today I finally felt healed enough to give it a try.
Wicket tends to be a bit of a puller, since he's always very excited to sniff things along the path. And if he sees another dog, he usually has a full-on doggy temper tantrum and does everything in his power to get at 'em. (I'm sure that's some kind of pet parenting fail.) Because of his "lunge and yank" walking style I've been reluctant to take him out while I'm still healing.
But it's been almost six weeks to the day so I felt it was time to test it out and see how it feels. The good news - not bad! Of course, I still have lots of muscle spasms in my chest but I'm getting more used to the sensation. We didn't run into any other dogs along the way, so Wicket was pretty docile. (Docile for him, anyway.)
The ticks are pretty bad this year. After we got home, I had him jump on the bed so I could give him a once over. We didn't go anywhere with tall grass but you just never know where they'll be lurking. Wicket generally hates to be on his back with his stomach exposed. But today he was very mellow. He let me check him out for any stray ticks, and then even indulged me in giving him some tummy rubs.
It was so nice to get out with him, just the two of us. I've missed taking him out and having that time together. Walks make him so happy, and that makes me happy.
