Today is a holiday in Canada - Victoria Day. Of course, since I've been off on surgery the long weekend doesn't really have the same "woo hoo!" quality for me that it does for everyone else. But it was nice to have an extra couple days with Dennis, since his EDO was on Friday.
We had originally planned on going to a movie. We went to see Godzilla on Saturday, and Dennis wanted to see The Amazing Spiderman 2 today. But it was very gloomy out, with rain pouring down all day long. We didn't really have any motivation to leave the house.
Instead, we decided to stay in and watch a movie with Wicket. The wonder of having Netflix at your disposal! Kids of today will never know what it was like to have to go to a store to rent a movie, rewind it and return it before you incurred late fees. It seems impossibly onerous now, especially when you can just click your mouse and watch right away.
We weren't in the mood for anything in particular. After some browsing, we landed on one called The Way Way Back with Steve Carrell and Toni Collette. It was an interesting movie - not really a comedy, not totally a drama. It was more a character study of a certain group of people in time. It isn't one I'd watch again but it was quietly interesting.
I do enjoy going out to movies but the introvert homebody in me also loves staying at home. Especially since most movie theatres (except for the drive-in*) don't let you bring your dogs. Well, I'm fine with them not letting other people bring their dogs. But it would be awesome if Wicket could come with us.
I wouldn't say Wicket is a movie buff. He is, however, a major buff of things related to watching movies with us - snuggling on my lap, waiting for Daddy to drop stray pieces of popcorn, and just generally being with his humans. Although he's a rambunctious ball of energy most of the time, when we watch movies he gets into his cuddle zone and relaxes completely. The photo is from one of our movie nights, when we still had a big tv set up in the basement. That night we were watching Cujo. I was worried it might scare him (or worse, give him ideas). But as you can see, he was soon in doggy dreamland. And even though my arms got a little tired, I loved being able to hold him.
*The drive-in experience is a story for another time!
