It's been quite a few weeks since I've been out running, as Dr. D said I wasn't allowed to run for six weeks after surgery. I can't imagine that it would feel good if I tried. The expanders are so uncomfortable - my chest just feels so dang weird.
I do miss it though. It's helped that the weather hasn't been that great. I think it would be even harder if we were having warm, beautiful days and I couldn't enjoy them. We have such short summers in Saskatchewan, you feel like you have to make the most out of the few good days we get.
I've never gone this long without running before. I'm probably going to have to do a learn to run program to build my endurance again! I miss it as an outlet. Running has always been my alone time. I put on some good music, and then I'm out the door and just leaving the world behind for awhile. I'm not fast or particularly good technically - it's just something I love to do.
While I miss running the most, I also miss my gym time. I've been a regular gym-goer for 15 years or so. I really enjoy spin class, as well as the days where I just go and do my own thing with weights and cardio. I'll be glad when I get the go-ahead to start to ease back in to it.
My physical therapy instructions have been to walk, building up to 30 minutes per day. I've been doing that regularly and it's been feeling good. But it's no substitute for having the kind of workout where you're dripping in sweat and have nothing left to give by the end.
