Happy day! Today was my first official spring run. And it might be the last for a little while, as the weather is going to be cold again for the next week or so. But I did it! I got out there and enjoyed some time pounding the pavement.
I'm a creature of habit so I followed my usual route. I was hoping it would be relatively dry all the way through but as per usual, the grassy strip behind Dutch Growers was ankle deep in sludgy water. I either had to go through it or run all the way back down the path. So I just took the puddle and made the best of it. My feet were soaked by the time I got home but it was worth it. This is the time of year when I just crave the outdoor run. I feel like an indoor cat watching all the robins through the window - I just need to be out.
It was pretty windy, so it was kind of a hard go. I had to really push myself against the wind. I'm hoping that between now and my surgery date (which hasn't been set yet) that I'll have a few nice days for running. I was pretty sluggish out there. I'm not sure if it's physical or mental, but I think cancer is draining my energy a bit. (Maybe it's hard work to produce all those abnormal cells.)
But - no complaints from me! I ran without spikes. I ran without slipping in ice and sliding in snow. I ran without a face mask. I ran without a layer of wool. I ran in the sunshine. I ran!
