I can cram a lot into one day!
I started with meal planning and making my grocery list. Once that was done, I bolted down some Greek yogurt then hopped on the treadmill for a 60 minute run. After that, I quickly jumped in the shower, got dressed and did my hair/make-up. All this before 9:00 am, by the way!
From there, it was a quick drive to church where I had some time with mom and dad. It was interesting because the sermon was all about welcoming people into the Christian community. We had three gentlemen join the service today. They looked as if they might be homeless and just looking for some shelter, or perhaps there were mental health or addiction issues at play. Regardless, there was something a little bit off. But they weren't disruptive and were warmly welcomed by the ushers, even if their behaviour was a little odd towards the end. Part of me wondered if it was some kind of test of our ability to hear the gospel. Perhaps it was just good timing. It was a reminder how easy it is to judge people. But God loves us all.
After that I drove downtown and met Tracy at State and Main for brunch. After some much-needed sister time (I'm feeling fragile these days and needs lots of love) I headed off to buy groceries. My usual routine is Extra Foods and Safeway (some things I always buy one place over the other). I can't get into too much trouble at Extra Foods. But dang it if Safeway isn't in a mall. In this case, Lawson Heights Mall. Granted there is an outside entrance and in theory I could avoid going through the mall altogether. But where's the fun in that?!
Like a moth to the flame, I found myself magically attracted to the People's store. They had a clearance section near the front and I noticed a ring I had previously looked at online. In fact, I had even added it to my shopping cart but before I went through with the purchase it sold out. I decided to try it on and then the saleswoman clinched it by telling me it was on sale for $18. Sold!
Since clearly it was my lucky day to save money (by spending it), I continued on. I resisted all the cute stuff in Target (pat on the back) and then headed to Bentleys. When Dennis and I had been in Centre mall the day before I noticed they had a pretty good BOGO sale on. I found a cute black purse and an equally nice brown purse. Did I need either of them? Well, no. But that's the point of finding a really good sale - you don't have to need them when prices are that low. (That's my misguided philosophy, anyhow.)
From there I thought "what the heck, let's see what Suzy Shier has going on". You can usually count on Suzy Shier to have more or less the entire store on sale. I usually have good luck finding dresses. Not this time though. But that didn't stop me from finding three tops and a scarf. They were on sale for $10-$15 each, with an extra 30% off. I was practically stealing from them at that point.
After leaving Suzy Shier, I started to wander towards Reitmans. But at that point I cut myself off. Odds are, I would have found something in Reitmans that caught my eye but I had done enough damage for one day. Incredibly pleased with my self-discipline, I rewarded myself with a Starbucks drink while I did my grocery shopping.
That was the end of the "me time" fun. The rest of the day involved making dinner, doing some cleaning, and doing some more work. It was fun while it lasted though!
