Yesterday I decided to treat myself to a jewelry purchase. Buying myself a nice new piece for my collection has become my way to occasionally reward myself for my day-to-day hard work. Dennis loves buying new electronics and gadgets and was always encouraging me to do something nice for myself too. When I thought about what I would want as a treat, the answer was "pretty sparkly things". A few years ago I bought my first pair of diamond earrings, and I've slowly added to my jewelry box over the years.
There's something so lovely about wearing gemstones, and knowing that you have this gorgeous piece of the universe on your wrist or ears. I don't go for anything really showy, but just nice classic pieces that make me feel good when I wear them. Dennis has also contributed some beautiful pieces to my collection for birthdays and Christmas. My favourite gift from him is a gorgeous pearl necklace and earring set.
Lately I've been spending time perusing the People's website. I love that they have both in-store and online exclusives. I do enjoy going to the store in person but find it a pain that prices aren't always shown (I do care about price - I'm looking for a treat, not a long-term investment!). Plus you always have to ask a salesperson to take things out of the case for you. I like to take my time and really consider the options. The People's website is great because it has the prices, as well as multiple pictures of each item so you can see different views. Occasionally they have reviews, but not that many. (I guess people are rarely disappointed with jewelry. What you see is what you get.) They also offer free shipping if you have it sent to the store of your choice. I guess they figure since you like to buy, they'll get you in there and see if you add one more thing to the bill. It's worth a try I suppose.

This won me over for a few reasons. First, I loved the colour of the blue with the diamond accents to set it off. I also loved that it came as a set (and for an awesome sale price). It's nice to be able to coordinate pieces together, or wear them separately. I also was drawn to the vintage style of the setting. Sometimes I like clean lines, but I also like something with a bit of "Downton Abbey" flair to it as well. It's nice to have a mix of modern and more ornate pieces.
The other item I got was a bracelet with white sapphires:

I had always fancied the idea of a diamond tennis bracelet, but when I saw this I liked it even better. I like the subtleness of having the stones be in a shorter band rather than the entire bracelet. I think it will make it more wearable for daytime. I loved the cut of the stones as well. White sapphires seemed like a unique choice, rather than traditional diamonds.
My beautiful new friends are slowly winging their way to Saskatoon. I'm hoping they'll arrive sometime this week. Yet one more thing to love about online shopping - you get to enjoy the anticipation a bit longer. There are some things to be said for not having instant gratification for everything. (Which seems particularly fitting given that it takes the earth centuries upon centuries to create these gemstones in the first place.)
I was a bit self-indulgent this go around. I think it'll be awhile before I go shopping for any new pieces. I am very intrigued by morganite stones, which are a beautiful light pink. I usually keep my jewelry purchases around the $150 mark, but I might save for a more substantial piece. There are some stunning morganite rings for $500 so I would want to set money aside for the next few months. Purchases that you've saved for are more special in some ways. And saving for a special "me treat" might curb my shopping habit a bit!
