Today I was in the office for an afternoon meeting. The benefit to meeting on a Saturday is that usually it's pretty quiet and there's always plenty of meeting rooms available. (It can get a little competitive for space during the work week.) The other benefit was that it gave me something else to do besides think obsessively about whether I should get the Oncotype test done. I continue to swirl around which way to go so it was actually a relief to focus on another topic, even if only for a few hours.
The meeting was with Colleen, who is going to be doing some coaching with us and help us through the transition from having external consultants to taking on pieces of the work at our organization. I had worked with Colleen very briefly when I first started my Lean Leader certification but was impressed by both her technical skills (she understands the concepts and how to apply them in all kinds of settings) and her interpersonal skills. She is very direct but also very compassionate. I have the sense she'll push us where we need to be pushed but also not make things harder than necessary.
Today's meeting was a chance to get to know each other better and share our thoughts about how we wanted to work together. We had an opportunity to talk about what's been working well so far, and where we feel we've had some struggles. I've never worked with a consulting group before and so it's been an interesting experience. One of the things I've enjoyed about it is that we've had a chance to work with people with a wide variety of experiences. It's definitely taken us outside of our comfort zone at times but there have been some good learnings. It's also been interesting to have a glimpse into a consultant life. I'm not sure that it's for me yet but some day - perhaps.
